Shooting of Japanese journalist in Bangkok
http://www.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/11_16.html
A male protestor who was near the scene of the shooting of Japanese cameraman Hiroyuki Muramoto says he had been standing in front of the protestors filming the security forces ahead.
The man says security troops opened fire, and Muramoto fell unconscious to the ground. He says he carried the cameraman into an ambulance.
A hospital official said Muramoto had been shot in the left of his chest and was bleeding badly.
Late Saturday, Japan's Foreign Ministry expressed regret to the Thai Embassy in Tokyo and asked the Thai government to investigate the incident.
On Sunday morning, Thai foreign minister Kasit Piromya sent a message of condolence to Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada. The Thai government pledged to look into the matter.
The organization Reporters Without Borders issued a statement on Saturday calling for a thorough and independent investigation into Muramoto's death.
The organization says experts from third countries should take part in the investigation. They should clarify whether live ammunition was used and which force opened fire.
It says Muramoto is the first journalist to die while covering the unrest in Thailand since 2008.
