Thaksin ponders Saudi role

Saudi Arabia has invited Thaksin Shinawatra to sit on a board overseeing King Abdullah's gigantic "new city" project which will cover 388 square kilometres when completed in 15 years, the fugitive former prime minister says.
"[The new city] is a mega-project that sounds very interesting," Thaksin said in a short message posted on his Twitter page and website on Sunday night.
"They want me to be a board member."
Nabil HAshri, Saudi charge d'affaires to Thailand, refused to confirm the claim. He told the Bangkok Post yesterday he was not aware of the report and "had no idea about the appointment".
Thaksin said he attended a meeting on Saudi Arabia's new city project on Sunday. He told the project developer he would take part on condition that Riyadh allowed Thai contractors and labourers to work on the project.
"This project is so huge that I cannot invest my money in it, so I offered to be a project consultant and help them with some networking jobs," Thaksin said.
He admitted the project was still in the very early stages and he would keep his supporters updated on the progress.
