Yep, you were right ka Prof. Removal of the Saddam Hussein
regime helps lessen the risk of terrorist attacks in the USA b/c
it also removes a source of refuge, training, funding and
arming, provides an opportunity to inflict damage against foreign
terrorists as they move into Iraq, and finally sends the message
that any attack with the US will be met with their destruction.
Doh says:
- Getting rid of WMD ( 0: None found admitted Powell)
Jess says:
Oh, pls dont say like that. Do you really think that UN and US
are completely wrong about WMD's that it was never existed?
We went to war because Saddam was grossly in breach of UN
resolutions instructing him to prove he had dismantled his WMD
programme.a public seemed incapable of grasping that the reason
for war was not the presence of WMD but the absence of evidence
that it had been removed.
Doh says:
- Making America safer ( 0: Iraq had no connection to 9-11)
Jess says:
It made us safer in a number of ways.
1. It removed a man known to be expansionist, aggressive and
destabilizing from power.
2. It removed a major source of funding and sanctuary for terrorists.
3. It creates the possibility for a nascent constitutional democracy
in the midst of the Arab world, which if successful could spread
to other areas of the region.
4. It sends a clear message that the US has the resolve to stay
with the fight, which is proving discouraging for the terrorists.
In contrast to our earlier policy of neglect and appeasement,
which directly led to the 9/11 attacks, it is now clearly understood
that we will retaliate with overwhelming force.
It removed the man who had harbored terrorists, including Abu Abbas,
mastermind of the October 1985 Achille Lauro hijacking and murder
of Leon Klinghoffer; Khala Khadr al-Salahat, accused of designing
the bomb that destroyed Pan Am flight 103; Abu Nidal; Abu Musab
al-Zarqawi, formerly the director of an al Qaeda training base in
Afghanistan; and Ramzi Yousef, ringleader of the February 26, 1993
World Trade Center bombing plot.

Jess says:
My belief is that establishing a western type democracy in Iraq
is far from ideal and will never be b/c traditionally, Iraq or any
Islamic states have been feudal monarchies or emirates. This is
largely a tribal thing intermingled with aspects of Islamic law.
However, I am stating my opinion on the maturation process of
real democratic process which will take years to develop. I do not
see the urgent need to push this for sooner. it is time for them to
breath some fresh air and show the rest of the world how it was
done. Stability in the Middle East is about how Arab leaders are
still making power plays against each other. Now, saddam is gone,
all right? ME stability means stable world economy - flow of oil
and other commerce.
