Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Limited has announced the appointment of Professor Dr. Alexander Paufler as its new President and CEO.
He succeeds Mr. Wolfgang Huppenbauer who returns to Singapore as President and CEO of Daimler South East Asia. Dr. Paufler will take up his new role on January, 2009.
Dr. Paufler brings more than 25 years experience in the automotive industry to his new role and joins the Thailand operation from Greece, where he was President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz. Born in Germany, Dr. Paufler graduated from Saarbruecken University in 1977 with a Masters in Economics and Business Administration and completed his Ph.D. in 1979.
He first worked for Daimler-Benz AG in Germany in 1981 in the tax department, before gaining experience with leading financial consultancy firms in Europe and Asia, primarily handling automotive clients. In 1990, as Chief Financial and Information Officer (CFO/CIO) for Mercedes-Benz Japan, he led the merger with Chrysler in Japan to form DaimlerChrysler Japan. In 2000 he joined Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in Japan as Senior Executive Officer Finance and Tax, before rejoining Mercedes-Benz in 2004 to head up the company operations in Greece.
I am very excited about the Thailand appointment and the chance to work in such an important and vibrant market for Mercedes-Benz, said Dr. Paufler. Mercedes-Benz Thailand continues to go from strength to strength and I am taking over the operations at a time when our customer satisfaction surveys and our reputation for quality and service are at an all time high, he said.
On a more personal note, I am also delighted to be working again in Asia, a region where much of my working career has been spent. Commenting on his successors appointment, Mr Huppenbauer said that Dr Paufler would bring a wealth of automotive industry experience to the role. 2009 is going to be a tough year for the automotive industry, both in Thailand and globally, he said. Dr. Pauflers long automotive background, coupled with his particular strengths in the financial side of the industry, is the right combination for further cementing the position of Mercedes-Benz in the Thailand market.
