it's ok krub i may sound cruel, but really, consulting is extremely competitive to get in
i suggest you visit www.vault.com and read up on free guides the paid ones are EXTREMELY useful if you are starting out and i highly recommend them to get up to speed fast
first, though, you should differentiate between the likes of bcg and mck (strategy), gt and other big 4 (consulting arm of audit firms), accenture (it consulting), and ac nielsen (market research). they are VASTLY different in ways that you cannot even compare.
i think your background is interesting. contrary to what many thinks, it is quite a competitive background for a good MBA spot as they sometimes want candidates with different backgrounds (i.e. not banking / consulting).
what you need to do, though, is beef up on your achievements in your job ... doesn't sound like you are doing much ... you should step up in your responsibilities, show leadership, expand your roles, and show clear progression and achievements.
it maybe hard, but that's why consultants get paid so much.
