Depends on the type of work. At my grandparents' company, most if not all of the employees do not have qualifications whatsoever. They tried to hire a vocational graduates a few times but found that school leavers (at m.3 or lower) had a better desire to learn with no silly attitudes. Skills pass on from senior staff to the newer ones and has been this way for more than 30 years.
Having said that, you still need a degree to do certain jobs, not just in Thailand but anywhere in the world really.
Would be nice if Thai companies could offer a work-based qualification...
