Well, to me Financial Engineer is probably a universal term used in financial derivatives management community. But, it's still pretentious bollox, lacking skill and expertise to be called an engineer by those who are traditionally engineers.
What mechanical device exactly does a 'financial engineer' make ?
The monkeys that work in garages, for example, are not 'engineers', they are at best 'mechanics' and in truth 'fitters'. The guys that fix computers, they are not 'engineers', they are technicians at best, as are the guys who mend washing machines and dishwashers.
Nothing Financial Engineer can do with money can make him an 'engineer'. Exactly how does the Second Law of Thermodynamics apply to buying shares, for example ?
Answer - it doesn't, and he is not an engineer. At best he is a glorified accountant finding fancy ways to launder money.
