Another fundamental different between Thailand and Singapore is that Thai people love to spend on extravagants and Singaporean spend on education and research. We all know that the majority of Thai people are poor and the spending habit of the poor is to borrow money to spend. That's why in Thailand we have a lot of "เศรษฐีเงินผ่อน" The real rich people usually save first and spend later. Spending borrowed money give you a temporary happyness but it will be a longterm burden. I am worry about Thailand because since TRT come to power the government has created Baht 300,000 million of new debt. The mega-projects will need another 1,000,000 million. Given that on average 20-30% of public spending will go into corruption. The corrupt politicians in Thailand will be Bt300,000 million richer when the mega projects are finished. This will be good for the stock market and property prices shortterm but may not be the best thing for the Thai people in the longrun. Given that there are only 7 million people in Thailand pay income tax, the heaviest burden will fall on these people, the middle class. To live a good life on borrowed money is fun but it is not a real progress. We all love Thaksin because he is prepared to borrow money for us to spend. I think the good time will be here for another 2-3 years after that you have to convert your profit into foreign currencies or gold.
