I assumed that you're asking for my personal opinion as a fan. So, here it is...
First of all, the Quarterback controversy in D.C. has been around since my Dad lived there (Jurgensen/Kilmer, for that matter). So, this is nothing new. :)
Second of all, Brunell is going to start this week, no doubt about that. Gibbs' nature is that he trusts in veteran players more than rookies or youngsters. That's his belief. It took Theismann's leg (broken by Lawrence Taylor, if you can recall) for Gibbs to switch from Joey T., who was playing very poorly then, to Jay Schroeder. I'm not going to point out rights or wrongs here, just the understanding of Gibbs' nature. The bottom line is, he's won three rings. Enough said.
I'd say, let Brunell play out of the season or until the team is "mathematically" eliminated from the playoff contention. Then, put Campbell in. Because, every time I'm in doubt about Brunell's capabilities, he proves me wrong. So, as of now, I'll keep my mouth shut, although I'd like to see what Campbell can do as much as any Redskins fans out there.
To me, it seems that WRs, or Moss in particular, keep bailing out Brunell in countless times. He under/overthrows receivers in regular basis. When he clicks, the team wins. When he doesn't, it's miserable and it's apparent that he unclicks more often than he does.
One more reason I want to see Campbell earn more playing time is... if he's really the answer, so we all know that the team is heading into the right direction. Then, we can start building the team around him. If somehow he's not the answer, so that we can go out and try to find a replacement, ASAP, because I don't see Brunell staying with the team after this season, unless he takes a significant paycut to be a backup (his cap figure in '07 is $7.8M, which is a lot for a 37 YO backup QB).
I guess two reasons Gibbs hesitates to switch. One is already stated above. The other is that the staff coach might see some signs in Campbell showing that he's not yet ready to take the reign.
So, we'll see what happens next after the Colts games. If they lose and drop to 2-5 entering the bye week, I can see some changes made because at 2-5 with 9 games left, 8 wins will get you in, which is highly unlikely considering they have to play CAR, ATL, NO, 2 w/PHI, DAL, NYG and TB. They can drop only 2 games at most out of those games and end up at 9-7. I think in the tough NFC East, a 9-7 team is not going to make it. Very difficult, indeed.
Another thing I just don't understand is, they traded for TJ Duckett but never play him. He's not been activated for most of the games. A third round pick is a lot to give up for a player in his contract year, let alone never suit him up.
I'm still scratching my head these days.
Again, this is my personal opinion krub, and thank you for let me rant. :)
