Sven bemoans City luck
Sven Goran Eriksson felt his Manchester City side were unlucky to concede a controversial opening goal in their defeat at Tottenham.
Pascal Chimbonda got the final touch to Dimitar Berbatov's clever flick from Jermaine Jenas' low free-kick, but the ball appeared to strike his hand and he may also have been in an offside position.
Rolando Bianchi levelled for City after coming off the bench before fellow substitute Jermain Defoe snatched all three points for Spurs with a late winner moments after Steven Ireland had been dismissed.
While Eriksson felt that something was amiss with Chimbonda's opener, he refused to blame referee Mark Halsey.
Reaction
He told Sky Sports: "Many times when you see the reaction of the players it's an indication that something has happened that shouldn't have happened.
"But the referees in this country are very good and they are very honest. Sometimes you are unlucky with the decision and other times you are lucky. That happens in football."
And the Swede had no complaints over Ireland's early exit, which came following a late two-footed lunge on Lee Young-pyo.
He said: "From the bench I thought it was harsh, but when I saw it afterwards it's the right decision from the referee and nothing to complain about.
"It's always more difficult to play with 10 against 11. But it's not the referee's fault, it's our fault."
Positive
The defeat was City's fourth on their travels this season, and they have been unable to replicate their home form, where they boast a 100 per cent record.
That remains a frustration for the former England boss, but he saw plenty of positive signs at White Hart Lane.
He added: "It was bad result for us, that's for sure. I don't know if we deserved it because we played one of our better away games.
"The behaviour was very good, we were brave, we tried to win it all the time and we played some good football, which has been so-and-so away from home, so that's very positive.
"I'm not happy with a defeat, of course, but I'm happy with how we behaved out there. It was much, much better than many other away games. If we play like this I don't think we will lose that many games."
