Besiktas"
14/09/2009 09:20, Report by Adam Bostock Good to be back
Rio Ferdinand is delighted to be in the United team again after a frustrating start to 2009/10.
Injury kept the defender out of the champions' first four league games but he was back in business at Tottenham, helping the Reds to recover from the shock of conceding the campaign's quickest goal so far.
"It was a bit of a wake-up call, it hits home the fact you're back playing in the first team again," said Ferdinand, referring to Defoe's overhead opener for Spurs after 47 seconds.
"But we responded in the right manner, getting the ball down and playing some of our best football this season."
The performance was capped by Wayne Rooney's fifth league goal of the campaign. "Wayne knows the onus is on him to be one of the people who gets the goals," said Rio. "He seems to have taken that on his
shoulders and he's running with it."
The Reds now enter a big week, with Rio insisting the focus is very much on Tuesday's trip to Turkey, not Sunday's mouthwatering Manchester derby.
"They are two great games but firstly we need to concentrate on Besiktas as the Champions League starts again. It's a great competition to be involved in."
Ferdinand on... Scholes' sending off
"I didn't think it (his second offence) was a yellow card. I think both players slid in for the ball, it was a fifty-fifty tackle. I think Scholesy was unfortunate."
Life on the sidelines
"When you're out injured it's never good to sit and watch in the stands or be restless at home while the lads are playing. So it's great to be involved in the squad again."
