Stats of a great season: two million fans saw Borussia Dortmund!
[8.05.] Borussia Dortmund finished the 2009/2010 season on fifth place and for the first time in seven years qualified directly for Europe though the league. The team showed consistency paired with footballing quality. Here´s a statistical review of BVB´s best campaign since 2003.

Attractive football: Only players from Leverkusen, Bayern and Bremen received higher ratings from the German football magazine kicker for their performances. So, fourth place for BVB in this department.
Penalties: Nuri Sahin, who had converted his first three penalty attempts, was denied by Wolfsburg´s Benaglio on matchday 33. Almost exactly two years earlier, Alexander Frei had missed the last penalty for BVB, being denied by the same goalkeeper. BVB didn´t concede a single goal from the spot this season (one miss).
Fair play: Borussia Dortmund was the second "fairest" of all 18 Bundesliga teams. They neither received a straight red nor two yellows cards, and only 50 bookings.
Strong at home: BVB earned a total of 34 points at their home ground, one point more than last season when they stayed unbeaten at the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. Borussia finished fourth in the home table.
Wide-awake: Borussia scored 11 and 12 goals in the first 15 minutes of the first and second half, respectively, more than at any other stage of the game.
Consistency: BVB had four good "half seasons" under Jürgen Klopp, picking up 29, 30, 30 and now 27 points in the respective first and second half campaigns.

Streaks: This season BVB had an unbeaten run of 12 games (matchdays 8 to 20), including a six-game winning streak (matchdays 14 to 19). They also were on a six-game winless run (matchdays 2 to 8).
Wins: Borussia won almost every second game this season (16 of 34). The last time they registered more victories (21) was in the 2001/2002 season when they won the Bundesliga title.
Late goals: BVB conceded 24 of their 42 goals in the last 30 minutes of the game.
Top club: Since matchday 17, Borussia Dortmund have either been on fourth or on fifth place in the Bundesliga.
Set plays: Borussia scored 18 goals from set plays, far more than the league average of 12. They conceded 16 from set pieces, including four after a throw-in.
Goals: Jürgen Klopp´s side only failed to score in four of the 34 matches, trailing only Bayern and Wolfsburg.
Attendance: A total of 2.054.685 fans watched Borussia Dortmund´s games in the Bundesliga this season, including 1.3 million at the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, with eight matches at BVB´s home ground drawing more than 80.000 fans. With an average of 77.248, BVB had the highest attendance since the 2004/2005 season (when the football temple still had a capacity of 83.000). Of BVB´s 34 games, 17 were sold-out, with an average attendance of 60.432. BVB were the only Bundesliga club to break the two-million attendance mark within a season.
