Scholes is August's star
Paul Scholes was a step ahead of his opponents last month, and United's no.18 was peerless in the voting for our August Player of the Month award - notching 5,000 of 8,000 votes, a 62 per cent landslide.
Scholes' jaw-dropping passing and ability to get among the goals have not faded with age. He's started the 2010/11 campaign with the enthusiasm of a teenager, enhancing his status as a precious and rare talent.
He produced passing masterclasses in the 3-0 wins over Newcastle and West Ham, and although his orchestrating at Craven Cottage wasn't rewarded with a win, he notched his 150th Reds goal in a 2-2 draw.
His nearest challenger in August, Dimitar Berbatov, polled 33 per cent of the vote, a nod towards his excellent start to the campaign. The Bulgarian scored three goals in four games, with Sir Alex saying, "this could be his year". Nani (3 per cent), Nemanja Vidic (1.5 per cent) and Darren Fletcher (0.5 per cent) made up the other nominees, but nobody could touch Scholesy on the pitch.
