Barcelona defender Gerard Pique denies Liverpool FC's Fernando Torres comments
Gerard Pique has denied he made any comments about Fernando Torres leaving Liverpool, according to leading Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague.
An article by the Daily Star Sunday claimed that the Barcelona defender had urged his international team mate to quit Anfield and described his presence in the club's current team as 'embarrassing'.
However, in a statement on his website, Balague claims he has spoken with Pique, who has strenuously denied the claims attributed to him.
"Gerard Pique has strenuously denied making comments attributed to him in an interview in this Sunday's edition of The Daily Star," said Balague.
"I have been in contact with Pique and he also assures me that he did not even give an interview to the journalist in question."
