Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard out for three weeks due to muscle injury picked up in training

Chelsea have been dealt a severe blow with Frank Lampard being ruled out for another three weeks after suffering a fresh injury in training.
The 32-year-old midfielder has been plagued by a series of problems after undergoing a hernia operation at the end of August.
The latest setback following the hernia and the detachment of a tendon in a hamstring is a problem with the adductor muscle in his leg, which means Lampard is now not scheduled to return to action until the start of next month at the earliest.
Carlo Ancelotti insisted yesterday that the injuries were unrelated, but conceded it was a significant blow to his team. Its a long time, he said of Lampards absence. He didnt have injuries in the past, though.
"Obviously hes not happy because hed like to play. He played a lot of games last season and has over the course of his career, and now hes not happy. But he has strength.
"Now he has to rest, today, before starting to train next week. Its not been a problem of him doing things too quickly. We were patient and took time putting him into the training session.
He started to recover because this week hes trained really well. But hes got a different problem. We had the time to be worried [when he underwent groin surgery] but now is not the time. Its time to wait and hope he will be fit quickly.
Chelsea had planned to include Lampard from the start of Saturdays Premier League encounter at home to Sunderland, especially with Michael Essien suspended after being sent off against Fulham in midweek, but will now use Ramires alongside John Obi Mikel and Yuri Zhirkov in the same midfield that struggled against Liverpool last Sunday.
Ancelotti said he was particularly disappointed because Lampard was training well. He did a fantastic training session yesterday, then had a problem on his adductor at the end, he said. I think he will be out again for two or three weeks.
"We are disappointed because he was so close to coming back into training. I wasnt joking when I said: One week, one week. Were unlucky.
It would have been a fantastic moment for him to replace Essien, a chance to put a player with experience and personality on the pitch, but we have to wait for him.
There is also concern whether Didier Drogba will have recovered from playing with malaria in time to start tomorrow, with Nicolas Anelka, who has been suffering from a back problem, hoping to train today.
Despite deciding not to appeal against Essiens three-match ban for a straight red card, Ancelotti also took time to defend his midfielders tackle on Clint Dempsey, saying it was: a strong tackle, but it wasnt his intention to create problems on his opponent. It was a strong tackle with two feet, but on the ball.
