Steven Gerrard today revealed how Fernando Torres' transfer deadline day move to Chelsea left him broken-hearted - and then spoke of his confidence that Kenny Dalglish can lead Liverpool to a bright future.

Gerrard freely admits he was disappointed to see the Spanish striker's transfer to Stamford Bridge rubber-stamped after days of speculation, but with new signings Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez having arrived at the club he believes the good times might not be too far off again for a club under new ownership and new management.

"I was heartbroken. Absolutely gutted. But I also called him after he left," Gerrard said.

Gerrard also admits the return of Kenny Dalglish to the manager's seat at Anfield has been instrumental in the recent revival in fortunes.
