Shockingly, after only 6years of  being on the season ticket waiting list and being told this time last year she was 13,000th in the queue, this weekend my better half was offered a season ticket by the club. She now has 7 days in which to find £1,100- £1,350 to buy one or face going to the back of the queue.

It bemuses me that just how many people either haven’t renewed from last season and/or just how many who at some point paid £30 to be put on the waiting list have now decided they don’t wish to be a season ticket holder at our club. But don’t expect the club to announce these figures, there’s more chance of getting to know the exact match day attendance figures

Of course when we are paying the highest prices in the country some people feel that a bit of silverware every 6 or so years would be a nice reward, rather than only getting to watch pretty football. Some older fans may even feel that the bowl has little atmosphere compared to the good old days at Highbury, some may feel the over the top stewarding has cut into the enjoyment factor of a home game, but I am guessing for most it’s a mixture of all them reasons.

I have no idea really about supply and demand economics, but for nearly 13,000 people to refuse a season ticket in one year surely most show the club that they are doing something VERY wrong not only on the pitch but also off it.

A spokesman for the Black Scarf Movement’ (www.wherehasourarsenalgone.co.uk) said on the matter “Whatever way you look at it, the fact the club is offering season tickets to people as high as 13,000 on the waiting list is astounding. We’ve already seen this summer that there are a huge number of people looking to ‘rent out’ their ticket for the coming season – not wanting to lose them altogether – but for Arsenal to apparently lose 30% of its 44,000 season ticket holders in one summer is a huge slap in the face.

“Finally it seems that patience has run out for those who have either been priced out of watching their beloved Arsenal, or those who simply refuse to be taken advantage of any more. Being expected to continually foot the bill for failings elsewhere in the club, and to pay the highest prices in football to watch an underachieving team is hard to take; that’s why we have engaged with the club and are willing to work with them in helping our core support continue to come to matches, and not have to give up on a club which many feel simply no longer cares about them.

“It seems as if the season ticket waiting list is being decimated and if things carry on the way they have been in recent years, it won’t be long until the club has nobody to fall back on – especially when it continues to charge such high ticket prices. It’s therefore high time, and imperative, that the club treats its loyal, core support with the respect it deserves.”
