Torres Back In Spain Squad, A Message To The Press
Vicente del Bosque, the Spanish coach, has kept faith with Fernando Torres for the Euro 2012 qualifying matches against Czech Republic and Scotland and has applauded his superb recent form, which sadly the English press seem to dismiss in their quest to knock the talented forward.
Torres did not make the squad for Spain`s previous match and his place was under threat from Roberto Soldado, who has scored six goals this season. The Valencia forward has been in top form, but the Spanish head man has lauded the form of Torres.
Torres was included in the 23-man squad announced by Del Bosque, so it seems his recent displays have not gone unnoticed - apart from by the UK press who seem intent on destroying him.
"It`s a squad that`s relatively stable, relatively young," Del Bosque said.
"Our idea is to give the best account of ourselves. Although we have qualified, Czech Republic and Scotland are fighting for their qualification so we will try to perform as competitively as possible."
"There`s a lot of competition for all the places," Del Bosque said.
"As far as the strikers are concerned, I think we`ve got all the circumstances covered. We`ve got a mix of players that complement each other for different types of games. Torres has been excellent recently and obviously deserves his place."
So to all the UK journos who want to keep knocking Fernando - up yours. You were on his back when he was dropped - where's the press about him being back in the Spanish squad because he's been in good form for the last few matches? Where's the headlines saying that Fernando is back to his best?
