ชอบบทความอันนี้จัง Guga's love affair continues By Nyree Epplett Monday, May 31, 2004 Roland Garros favorite son Gustavo Kuerten continued his love affair with Center Court on Monday, sweeping past Spanish No23 seed Feliciano Lopez 6-3 7-5 6-4 to enter the quarter final for the fifth time in his career.
Spurred on by a chanting pro-Guga crowd on Court Philippe Chatrier, the three-time champ and No28 seed played instinctive claycourt tennis to secure the victory in one hour, 53 minutes.
Kuerten never allowed Lopez into the match, serving brilliantly, remaining rock-solid from the baseline, and moving in to finish off points at will. He played his favorite shot, a topspin crosscourt backhand with ease, hit 29 winners (including seven aces) and frustrated Lopez with a string of perfect drop shots.
In contrast the Spaniard, who is surprisingly more at home on fast surfaces, couldn't come to terms with the slow conditions, serving poorly (44 per cent of first serves) and committing 35 unforced errors. He struggled to keep balls in play, and secured just one service break against the Brazilian No1, but was broken straight back.
Despite receiving treatment on his right thigh/groin from the trainer during the match, Guga played near-flawless tennis and may well pose a serious threat to his next opponent either Argentine David Nalbandian (8) or Russian Marat Safin (20), who play later Monday.
Kuerten, who won here in 1997, 2000 and 2001, defeated No1 seed Roger Federer in the third round. His impressive 36-5 win-loss record at Roland Garros is unmatched by any of the players left in this years draw. ตรงประโยคเนี๊ยRoland Garros favorite son Gustavo Kuerten continued his love affair with Center Court อ่านแล้วรู้สึกดีจริงๆ
