Liquefaction video of Japan Tohoku-Oki Earthquake in Central Park - Water pouring from cracks. One of the two most incredible videos regarding earthquake phenomena. My thoughts are with those who lost loved ones. This video is not showing water pipes breaking, but the water table rising from shaking. You can experiment at home with half sand, half water, and place a brick upright like a building. Shaking gently side to side (most motion in EQs are horizontal), and you will see the water bubble up and mix with the sand, creating a literal "quicksand," at which time the brick will sink slightly or even fall over.
