DR. ART-ONG JUMSAI THAILAND Science Invention & Human Values Education Dr. Jumsai was born in 1940 in Bangkok, Thailand. At the age of 9 years, the whole family moved to Paris, France where his father was with UNESCO in Paris. In 1952, he was transferred to the United Kingdom and lived with an English family. He attended Enfield Grammar School and then went to Haileybury and Imperial Service College where his father had studied when he was a student in England. After passing GCE o level in 11 subjects, A in Mathematics and Physics with distinction and Scholarship level in the same subjects, he went on to Trinity College, Cambridge where he read Mechanical Sciences and obtained B.A.Hons and M.A. He continued his studies at Imperial College of Science and Technology, London University where he obtained D.I.C. and Ph.D.
After returning to Thailand, he became lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University. He did not only teach Engineering, but he taught the Science of Religion and mind study as well as environment study to students of all faculties. During the vacations, he took them to stay with Hill tribes people and village people all over Thailand to help the people have a better life. He infused into the mind of the students to give service to humanity without wanting anything in return.
Every two years, he would take leave from the University to spend a few months in the United States of America to gain experience in Technology and to expand his horizon in the field of Mind Study. He took courses UCLA in Bio-feedback and Teaching English as a second language.
He had a brief but significant involvement in the field of science. In 1971-1972, he designed the subsystem used in the automatic landing of two Viking spacecrafts that landed safely on the surface of Mars in 1976, for the first time in the history of mankind. This was a part of NASA's project for the exploration of Mars. In 1976, he installed the first electricity power plant using photovoltaic cells that supplied electricity for the remote village in the province of Chiengrai. In 1984, he was awarded the Top Scientist Prize of the year in Thailand.
After seven years at Chulalongkorn University, he decided to go into the field of industries and gain further experience in life. He became Manager of Public Relations in Caltex Oil (Thailand), Director of Marketing of Thai Plastic and Chemicals Co., Ltd., Managing Director of Thai Chipboard Co., Ltd., Managing Director of Datron Thai Company, Ltd., Managing Director of Microwave Technology Corporation.
In 1986, he was elected a Member of Parliament where he became the Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Education. He embarked on the field of Education giving training to teachers all over Thailand as well as teachers from all continents of the world in the field of Human Values Education. This has become the main focus of life to help children to become good citizens of the world full of Human Values with the ability to live in peace in any society. To date, he has trained over 100,000 teachers in Thailand and has gone to give training to teachers in all continents of the world. Nineteen years ago, he established the Sathya Sai School in Thailand to be a model for all to emulate. More than 2,000 visitors come to visit the School every month at the present time. Many foreign teachers and educators from all the continents of the world also come to visit the school.
