Candidatures World Expo 2020
Two countries have already submitted a candidacy application for a World Expo in 2020 : Turkey, in the city of IZMIR, and Thailand, in the city of AYUTTHAYA.

New routes to a better world
Health for all
Date: April 30 October 31, 2020
Expected visitors: around 39 million visitors
Expo Site: The site has a feasible location, enabling a smooth transportation plan for the Expo. With its inspiriting setting and easily accessible landmark location, the site will not create a burden on the city. The key potentials of the site include integration to the urban context and rich city fabric with a high legacy and post-use potential. The site is in a beautiful waterfront location having a great long-term potential as a basis for new urban development serving the entire Izmir.
Theme: New Routes to a Better World / Health for All
The theme is based on the issue of health and quality of life. In the Aegean region, there has been a special interest of healthcare starting from ancient settlements like Asklepion, Allianoi, and Agamemnon. "New Routes to a Better World/ Health for All" includes scientific, social and ecological approaches. It also refers to the various aspects of life for individuals, society, and environment. The theme will be on the health issues while focusing in a rather positive manner to the quality of life. The size of Expo site and parking lots has been planned based on the duration of the event, number of expected visitors and participants, and there is a strong potential to enlarge the site in the forthcoming years against increasing expectations.
Objectives:
The goal of Izmir in bidding the Expo 2020 is to provide a meeting place for all mankind in harmony with all regions and cultures, and help to establish the basis for a better and healtier world. Izmir, at Turkey's uniqe geographic location which connects Asia and Europe, the Black Sea and Mediterranean, is the Eastern point of West, the western point of East. Within the cultural mosaic of Anatolia acting as a bridge between eastern and western civilisations, Izmir and Aegean region have become symbols of solidarity and tolerance throughout history.

AYUTTHAYA THAILAND 2020
Redefine globalisation
Balanced life, sustainable living
Date: January 15 June 15, 2020
Expected visitors: more than 30 million visitors
Expo Site: Ayutthaya has been chosen as the site of the Expo. The city is easily accessible for Thailand and its neighboring countries. The Thaï government has approved the plans to extend its mass transit network, specially the rapid trains system which links directly to the future World Expo site.
Theme: Redefine Globalisation, Balanced Life, Sustainable living
The world is a big jigsaw puzzle made up of pieces that are different in their shapes and sizes. Each piece plays a unique role in completing the picture. Globalisation, however, assumes that every piece in this world is in the same shape and at the same size. The theme of Expo will discuss the importance of celebrating the differences instead of ignoring them. Each country has its own unique contribution, its own values and its own traditional wisdom, which can help to solve the world's problems.
Objectives:
Thailand is located in the center of Asia, the region with continuously economic growth. As a member of the Association of South-East Asian (ASEAN), the Expo will not only benefit Ayutthaya and Thailand, but also the rest of ASEAN as well.
Ayutthaya was the old capital of Siam (old name of Thailand) from 1351 to 1767, and was the place of Thailand's first connection with foreigners. Ayuttaya was once a diplomatic crossroad and a bustling center of trade of the region, making it a perfect location from which Thailand can once again open its doors to the world, and a stage where every nation can showcase their strengths and share their ideas.
Ayutthaya, 45-minutes drive away from Bangkok, is a city of perfect balance a place where the past, present and future meet, where industry and agriculture coexist, where tradition and innovation are seen going hand in hand. It's an example of Balanced Life, Sustainable Living.
