Argan Oil Liquid Gold for Your Skin

Argan oil has been on the natural beauty scene for quite a while and even the mass market has put a number of products with argan oil on the shelves. In that case, its high time to understand what argan oil is, what it is made from and why everyone wants a piece of its super powers!
Argan oil is made of the kernels of the argan tree (argania spinosa) and a true luxury product, as the argan trea is one of the rarest found trees in the world. As the argan trea is mostly found in Morocco, argan oi l is also being referred to as Moroccan oil.
The argania spinosa is a tree that dates back to the Tertiary Age (65-1.8 million years ago), and while it once covered North Africa, it is now an endangered species and under protection of UNESCO. The trea can grow up to 10 metres high and produces thorns, gnarled trunks and long, oval leaves. The argan trea blossoms in April and it takes more than a year for the blossoms to become argan fruits.One trea yields an average of 8kg of fruits per year therefore it takes about eight argan treas to produce 1 litre of argan oil. This is the reason why argan oil is probably the rarest oil in the world.
The oil from unroasted argan seeds is being used to treat skin, skin deseases, hair and is also used as a delicacy on salads and other foods. It contains tocopherols (vitamin E), sterols (phytosterols), polyphenols, ferulic acid, carotenoids, squalene and a composition of the following fatty acids:
44% Oleic acid
30% Alpha-linolenic acid
12% Palmitic acid
6% Stearidonic acid
5% Linoleic acid
3% Myristic acid
Argan oil therefore is rich in unsaturated fatty acids (approx. 80%), essential fatty acids and antioxidants. Essential fatty acids make part of the cell membrane and are necessary for regulating healthy skin and premature aging. Vitamine E, another preeminent component of argan oil, is a powerful antioxidant which protects essential fatty acids as well as vitamine A levels in the body and skin. It accumulates in the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin cells) and forms a barrier, which locks in moisture, prevents skin aging due to oxidation, acts inflammatory and strengthens the capillary walls. Argan oil is also used in visibly reduct scarring and stretch marks.
Squalene, vitamine E and essential fatty acids contained in argan oil further make this liquid gold into a proven emollient and let it be absorped by skin quickly.
