How I am Pleased to Meet You, Harukaze Doremi

Before I met her, I was still a (too) humble and aimless child, but when I was introduced into Harukaze Doremi’s life, that two characteristics would soon vanish from my life forever. The way she and her friends think, speak and act has taught me the way of living harmoniously with the ever-changing world. It would be a crime of mine if I were to be so heartless as not to share my blessed experiences with you. Speaking straightforwardly, being able to watch Doremi and her friends’ life from a camera’s eye view for four full years has brought me two main benefits: I got to know the beauty of music and, more important, learned to understand how others feel and what to react to them in each different situation.

         The first thing of Doremi’s story that caught my interest was that her life is full of music. Everything from her hair decoration to her name and her lifestyle is simply musical. For instance, she has a musical clef picture attached to her bedroom’s door. She is a brilliant piano player, also. These facts have influenced my life from the moment I first notice them. Before then, I rarely hum or sing; however, I could now recall a lot of lyric in the songs about her and her colleagues. What’s more, I am now a music student. When I was a child, my mother wanted me to study some sort of music; I always refused. She must have been very glad when I told her I want to learn something musical. Although I must admit that I am not the best, or even a good, music student, learning music is a whole new world of experience for me, and I have learned something about social interactions from it. To summarize, Doremi *has made me appreciate the joyous aspects of music, and I am very much grateful for it.

         Nevertheless, the most important benefit I got from inspecting the clumsy yet cute red-haired girl is the knowledge about life. There are a lot of moral teachings indirectly illustrated through her tales. For example, in her fourth year in Misora Primary School, she and her three friends legally became the mothers of a female baby who is very important to the world. It was a year of chaos rearing up the newborn, but it would become one of the happiest *years of her whole life too. Many incidents happened, ranging from Doremi’s mistake that made Hana, the baby, fell ill to the tiresome tests to measure Doremi and her friends’ quality of being mothers and to many more events. Watching them try made me aware of each and every mother’s unconditional love, including mine. One of my favorite quotes from the year, not exactly verbatim, however, is “Being a mother is not about giving birth to a baby. It is about rearing and nurturing it.”, which is what Doremi’s mother taught her in the early days of her motherhood. This is just one of the admirable morals from her life, and, unfortunately, there is not enough space in just one essay to tell them all. The conclusion is: I learned so much about life from her that the lessons have made me what I am now.

         I hope that these two points should be enough to convince you that looking carefully on Doremi’s life has not been a waste of time at all. I want to urge you to have a look too. I sincerely wish you *happy hours of watching and learning from them the musical and loving-kindness way of life that I spent a precious hour of my life describing it.
