I graduated Summa Cum Laude, but the only real payoff I ever had from it was probably when I applied for a student visa at the US Embassy in Bangkok many years ago. When I gave my application to the officer there (a Thai lady). She glanced at my transcript, and without even looking further at any other supporting document (like the US college acceptance form), told me to come back the next day to get my passport and visa. I was quite surprised.
But other than that... it's not a lot of use really. It doesn't really "help" per se. It just doesn't "hurt", esp. if you are a fresh graduate.
But after you have worked for a few years, it's your credibility and reputation at work that really count. Grades would be the things of the past that no one cares.. not even you yourself.
But that's what life is all about. When your main responsibility is schoolwork, grade is the measuring stick. When your main responsibility is work, you are still graded somehow with performance metrics. If you knew how to get good grades, you know how to excel at those metrics... But the great thing about working life is that you have a lot more freedom to set your own metrics.
