Korean actor Gong Yoo will soon step back onto the silver screen by starring in an upcoming action flick, the pic's promoter Showbox said Tuesday.
In the movie "The Suspect" (translated title), the "Big" actor will play the role of a delivery man named Ji Dong-cul who used to be in the special forces from North Korea.
"I've been trying hard to prepare for action scenes that require real gunnery techniques being used in the North. This project is where I'll be showing a different kind of manliness from what I've shown on the screen so far," Gong Yoo said in the statement.
The actor's new movie starts by Ji falsely being accused for murdering the C.E.O of a company. He gets chased by a persistent drill sergeant named Min Sae-hoon, played by actor Park Hee-soon.
Director Won Shin-Yeon, who is wielding the megaphone of "The Suspect," has done a few works in a similar genre for his latest two feature movies.
It is assumable that Won's "A Bloody Aria" (2006) and "Seven Days" (2007), in which ABC TV series "Lost" actress Kim Yun-jin played the lead character, played a large part in proving Won as an action-savvy director and helped him hiring one of the hottest actors in 2012 as the male lead in the film.
Gong Yoo has become a household name throughout Asia, especially in Japan, with his popular 2007 TV series "The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince" and film "Finding Mr. Destiny" in 2010.
His latest role in the big screen is the suspense drama Silenced released in 2011. After finishing his two-year military service, he made a whirlwind return to the small screen as a doctor in KBS' TV series "Big," co-starring actress Lee Min-jung.
