I'm just ganna quickly review on meaning of MUST and HAVE TO. งั้นขอสรุปอย่างรวดเร็วละกัน เกี่ยวกับ MUST and HAVE TO นะ
So, to have to do something means that you have responsibility to do it or necessity and we can use it in the Past, Present or Future Tense.
ต้องทำ หมายถึง เธอรับผิดชอบว่าต้องทำหรือจำเป็นต้องทำ ใช้ได้ทั้งรูปประโยค อดีต/ปัจจุบัน/และอนาคต
Here is an example ตัวอย่าง
We have to get up early for school. เราต้องตื่นเช้าไปโรงเรียน
OK so we have responsibility or necessary to get up early for school.
ก็คือ เราต้องมีหน้าที่หรือจำเป็นต้องตื่น ไป โรงเรียน
In a Future, we still say ในรูปอนาคต เราใช้
We have to get up early for school.
Or we can say, หรือพูดว่า
We will have to get up early for school.
In the Past Tense, we don't use 'have'. ในรูปอดีต เราไม่ใช้ แฮฟ นะจ๊ะ
The Past Tense of 'have' it 'had' เราใช้ แฮด
So ประโยคนี้ก็เลยใช้ว่า
We had to get up early for school.
We use 'Must' in similar way. ใช้ มัส ในทางเดียวกันเลยจ้ะ
Here is an example ตัวอย่างนะคะ
I must finish my work before I go home.
There're no Past Tense for 'must', so we can use must for Present Tense or Future Tense. มัสไม่มีรูปพาสเท้นท์นะคะ ดังนั้น เราจะใช้ มัส ในรูป ประโยคปัจจุบันและอนาคตค่ะ
OK, Let's talk about the negative form of 'HAVE TO' and 'MUST'
โอเค (รีวิวเสร็จละ) เรามาดูรูปปฏิเสธของ 'HAVE TO' และ 'MUST' กันมั่ง
When you use them as the Positive 'HAVE TO' and 'MUST' have the similar meaning. But in the negative, there's the different cognitation to use 'HAVE TO' and 'MUST'
ในรูปปฏิเสธ 'HAVE TO' และ 'MUST' มีความหมายเหมือนกันค่ะส่วนข้อแตกต่าง ก็มีดังนี้
Here's how it work.
You don't have to arrive before 8 o'clock. เธอไม่จำเป็นต้องมาก่อน 8 โมงนะ
(don't have to = ไม่จำเป็น)
So source of the cognitation of the meaning of this is, it's not necessary to arrive before 8 o'clock. But it's possible (if so) desired. เธอไม่จำเป็นต้องมาก่อน 8 โมง แต่จะมาก็ได้ถ้าอยากทำ
You don't have to arrive before 8 o'clock. But you could, if you want.
If you replace 'have to' with 'must not' ถ้าแทนที่ แฮฟ ทู ด้วย มัส น็อท
You 'don't have to' arrive before 8 o'clock. ไม่จำเป็น
You 'must not' arrive before 8 o'clock. ต้องไม่
It changed the meaning. มันเปลี่ยนความหมาย
Must not = You can not (arrive before 8 o'clock.) เธอไม่สามารถ/ต้องไม่
In the negative ในรูปปฎิเสธ
'Must not' and 'Don't have to' : have very different meaning. มีความหมายต่างกันนะคะ
Here's another example. อีกตัวอย่างนะคะ
You must not use such horrible language. เธอต้องไม่ใช้ภาษาวิบัตินะ
Your parent and your teacher might said that to you. If you using ( ) as for an example. Swear it.
So. ดังนั้น
You must not use such horrible language. ต้องไม่ใช้ภาษาวิบัตินะคะ
You mean bad language is prohibited, must not. ภาษาวิบัติมันห้ามใช้ ก็ต้องไม่ใช้นะ
การเขียน 'must not' แบบตัวย่อ
Another way to express 'must not', you can use รูปเขียนย่อ like this
So instead write 'must not' you can write ก็คือเขียน 'mustn't' , It had the same meaning. ซึ่งมันก็มีความหมายเหมือนกันแหละ
Ok, So that's how we express MUST and HAVE NOT in the negative.
You can take the quiz blow on www.engvid.com to test your knowledge.
